So now I only have one question.
Where to go from here?
I have a basic understanding of the syntax of C, but obviously this is just walking down to the dock, we hardly have gotten wet yet.
Should we go on to read books (we would love some useful recommendations), should we pull apart someones code and look at it?
What (in your mind) would be a good first project to work on?
Right now I decided to program a terminal game of blackjack, as that is pretty common in beginning programming classes.

Waiting for Object-C tutorial :)
May you get time to complete it !

Plans for an ObjC tutorial? Yes. Time? Less so. So I'm making no guarantees here.
Comment 9 by Beto http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment9 http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment9 Your tutorial is by far the best tutorial I've ever read on C. Are there any plans for a tutorial on Objective C?

Thanks a lot.

Comment 7 by rohas http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment7 http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment7 Thaks for the tutorial.. Even when I was looking for xCode, I discovered I had a lot of holes in C.

Great tutorial...really
Comment 6 by Gabor http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment6 http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment6 Tank you for the great tutorial, was really helpful. I'm currently in the process of learning C and it's nice to see a different approach to the material than what I was used to.

I'm also looking for books or even websites that contain C programming related exercises, can you recommend me anything?

Again, thank you for the great site!
Comment 5 by toph http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment5 http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment5 Thanks for the great tutorial! It was well worth it for an intro to xcode as well as a refresher on my C skills!

I have one further question: how do you change a command-line program into an executable I can run directly from the finder? I would like to use programs I write without running xcode every time. Could you provide some information on this or a link to a site where I could read about it?

Thanks again for the great tutorial, it really helped a lot!
Comment 4 by Constantine http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment4 http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment4 I needed something to refresh my programming skills in C, and this tutorial has been extremely helpful! Short, to the point, and easy to understand (where C allows it ofc - chapter 6 was a bit confusing, but that's really C's fault :P). I also found the order things were presented very good.

Some info on how C gets/output data from/to files would be welcome.

All in all, a great tutorial, thanks a lot!

Zach, I'm planning to expand this into an Objective-C tutorial eventually, but until then, you may want to look at Scott Stevenson's crash course at CocoaDevCentral to learn Objective-C, a set of extensions on top of the C things you've learned here. You can find it at http://cocoadevcentral.com/d/learn_objectivec/
Comment 2 by Zach http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment2 http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment2 Alright, I finished this tutorial and understand it all, where should I look next. I want to continue learning how to program for OSX and hopefully the iPhone.
Comment 1 by Aaron http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment1 http://masters-of-the-void.com/book15.htm#comment1 Thanks for the site. I was hoping for a quick intro to Xcode, and not necessarily a refresher course in C (I wrote my first C-code in the early 80's), but I found both useful. The C-refresher was good, because it reminded me of why I hate C so much!! :D

Good job!
